“Jeff Koterba's TEDx talk was a perfectly executed story that informed, entertained, and emotionally connected with our audience. His closing was phenomenal and left the audience with tears of joy."
~Dave Richards, Dean of Library Services, University of Nebraska at Omaha, 2017 UNO TEDx Emcee

“After hearing Jeff present a TED Talk, I was bound and determined that others should hear his story. His presentation celebrating the library’s 20th anniversary in our building immediately grabbed everyone’s attention. It was fascinating to hear how he came to start drawing as a child as well as how he continues to find inspiration in present-day news and events. We continue to receive positive comments from those in attendance, even six months after the program."
~Kathy Rieger, Library Director, Council Bluffs Public Library

“Jeff is a fantastic and engaging speaker, with a humble yet confident style that allows his message to resonate with anyone regardless of age or background. He was our guest at the annual banquet of the Washington Cornhuskers club (Seattle-based Nebraska alumni group), and did a wonderful job showing us his cartoons and telling the stories (sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant, sometimes both) behind them, and sharing his life experiences. The feedback we received from our club members was overwhelmingly positive, and Jeff even spent extra time talking with our guests personally and making everyone feel welcome. I would highly recommend Jeff for any speaking engagement."
~Jason Grotelueschen, Past President, Washington Cornhuskers

JEFF KOTERBA
Cartoonist, writer, musician and creativity advocate

BIO:

Jeff Koterba is a cartoonist, writer, musician and creativity advocate. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and during the summer before his senior year of high school, he was struck by lightning. Instead of taking him to the hospital, his dad gave him a shot of Jack Daniels.

Since joining the Omaha World-Herald in 1989, he has been a finalist for Editorial Cartoonist of the Year from the National Cartoonists Society and has twice placed second in the National Headliner Awards. He has also won first place for editorial cartooning in the Great Plains Journalism Awards five times.

His cartoons are distributed to over 850 newspapers around the globe and have appeared in such publications as The New York Times, The Washington Post, San Diego Union-Tribune, Dallas Morning News and USA Today.

Koterba also produces a weekly video for Omaha.com and CBS affiliate, KMTV, that goes beyond the drawing board and explores the creative process.

His memoir, Inklings, traces Koterba’s path on his journey to become a cartoonist, and more so, to rediscover the love of his family that was there from the start. Entertainment Weekly called Inklings “…a powerful and moving portrait of an artist.”

Jeff also is the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the Prairie Cats, a swing and jump-blues band he formed in 1998. The Prairie Cats have performed at the South by Southwest Music Festival, Windows on the World at the World Trade Center, and at the Derby Lounge in Hollywood.

And in case there was any question, he now avoids thunderstorm whenever possible.

BOOK:

Inklings, a memoir - With a pen and a sheet of white paper, Jeff Koterba was able to escape into a world that was clean, expansive, and comfortable--a refuge from the pandemonium surrounding him. A heart-felt memoir that calls to mind The Tender Bar and Fun Home, Inklings is infused with an irresistible optimism all its own.
